Going Up the Taconic? Stop for a Taste of New York!

If you are heading upstate on the Taconic State Parkway, you might pass the Taste NY Market at Todd Hill, located in what was once a closed-up gas station/rest stop on the highway median. The market, is in its second year of operations and sales are up 34 percent in the first 6 months of this year compared to the same time period in 2015.

The Todd Hill store is one of 54 Taste NY locations statewide that are set up to help sell New York State foods, beverages, and good. There are now markets at Jones Beach, the Lock E-13 Living History Rest Area on the Thruway, and the Taste NY Long Island Welcome Center on the Long Island Expressway.

“When New Yorkers buy New York products, everyone wins,” said Governor Andrew Cuomo in a statement.

This Taste NY market is operated by Cornell Cooperative Extension Dutchess County and is selling local foods, meats, beverages, baked goods, and agricultural products from dozens of New York State producers.

This summer, the market is hosting outdoor farmers’ markets on Friday and Sunday afternoons from 1:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. through October. The farmers’ markets offer opportunities to small farms and producers who are dedicated to growing their business at the Taconic location, including fresh produce and flowers, and distilled beverages and hard ciders. Joining the outdoor farmers’ market this year is the Farmers and Chefs food truck, which features ingredients from Hudson Valley farms – many of which also sell products inside the market.

The market is open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday; 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday; and 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. It is closed on Tuesdays. The location is 4640 Taconic State Parkway, Poughkeepsie, at the intersection of Todd Hill Road, which is one mile south of Route 55
