Health-Care Employer Furloughs 350+ Due To Coronavirus

The virus posed a great impact on both essential and non-essential businesses, including health care, according to a spokeswoman.

MIDDLETOWN, NY — More than 350 employees of health-care companies were furloughed in April because of of the new coronavirus crisis. Crystal Run Healthcare, headquartered in Middletown, announced April 13 a temporary plant layoff that affected 366 employees, none of whom were represented by a union.

The affected sites, in Orange, Rockland and Sullivan counties, according to the WARN Act details, filed by the company, are as follows:

  • 100 Crystal Run Road, Middletown, 5 affected employees
  • 109 Rykowski Lane, Middletown, 74 affected employees
  • 1200 Route 300, Newburgh, 24 affected employees
  • 155 Crystal Run Road, Middletown, 33 affected employees
  • 156 Route 59, Suite B4, Suffern, 3 affected employees
  • 185 Rykowski Lane, Middletown, 1 affected employee
  • 1987 State Route 52, Liberty, 1 affected employee
  • 2 Centerock Road, West Nyack, 33 affected employees
  • 219 Blooming Grove Turnpike, New Windsor, 8 affected employees
  • 300 Crystal Run Road, Middletown, 6 affected employees
  • 48 New Main Street, Haverstraw, 3 affected employees
  • 6 Liberty Square Mall, Stony Point, 1 affected employee
  • 61 Emerald Place, Rock Hill, 1 affected employee
  • 7 Hatfield Lane, Goshen, 5 affected employees
  • 75 Ronald Reagan Boulevard, Warwick, 1 affected employee
  • 807 Route 17M, Monroe, 4 affected employees
  • 81 Ronald Reagan Boulevard, Warwick, 3 affected employees
  • 855 Route 17M, Monroe, 27 affected employees
  • 95 Crystal Run Road, Middletown, 120 affected employees

Mary DeFreitas, chief human resources officer for Crystal Run Healthcare, said her company had to make the difficult decision to furlough a group of its employees in areas where there was little to no work.

“As the COVID-19 pandemic has threatened the health of many people across our community and our country, it has also posed a great economic impact on both essential and non-essential businesses across all sectors, including healthcare," she said in a statement provided to Patch.

"While we hope that we can soon resume normal business operations, at this time we cannot say when, or if, we will be able to bring all furloughed employees back to full time status, DeFreitas said.
