Hinchey Laid To Rest Wednesday; 100s In Attendance

The long-serving congressman had a strong record of environmental advocacy.

SAUGERTIES, NY — The funeral for retired Rep. Maurice Hinchey was held Wednesday with hundreds in attendance to honor him. He was remembered a public official with integrity, a devout family man and a devoted fan of the Yankees.

An Environmental Conservation Police honor guard brought home Hinchey’s strong environmental record, the Poughkeepsie Journal said.

A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated at St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church.

Hinchey died Nov. 22 at home after a long illness.

He served the public for 38 years, with 20 of those years in Congress.

Hinchey’s family announced in June that he was suffering from frontotemporal degeneration, a terminal neurological disorder.
