Local Security Company Founder Earns Industry’s Highest Honor
John Lombardi, owner of Commercial Instruments and Alarm Systems based in Fishkill, was inducted into the Alarm Industry Hall of Fame.

From Commercial Instruments & Alarm Systems, Inc.: John Lombardi, owner of Commercial Instruments and Alarm Systems (CIA) based in Fishkill, was inducted into the Alarm Industry Hall of Fame, earning the industry’s highest honor. Lombardi was recognized at the International Security Conference in Las Vegas on April 4, 2017.
The Hall of Fame represents the highest honor for extraordinary professionalism, conduct and achievement in protecting people and property. Lombardi was chosen because of the impact he has had on the industry over his long career. Nominated by past inductees, Lombardi was one of just five honorees this year and joins 85 others in the industry’s pantheon.
“I believe success is a direct result of passion, tenacity and ingenuity,” Lombardi was quoted to say when
receiving the award.

Lombardi prides himself on always being on the cutting edge of technology, designing systems to meet the
needs of the client in residential, commercial and government security. He states that in his career, technology has not always kept up with client’s demands. “I had the ability to use the very limited technology of the era to solve clients’ security issues and to do so in a very cost-effective, creative way,” he said.
Among Lombardi’s accomplishments:
- He has dedicated nearly 45 years to protecting people – first in law enforcement as a police officer, and then in electronic security and as a volunteer firefighter.
- Currently sits as the New York State Electronic Security Association (NYSESA) Labor Standards Committee Chair.
- Served as an adjunct professor at Western Connecticut State University where he directed a specialized security curriculum for the Criminal Justice Program.
- He has served on the New York Burglar and Fire Alarm Association board of directors and has served as its president.
- Named Electronic Security Association State President of the Year in 2003.
- He has served on the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Technical Committee.
