Man Killed After Car Goes Down 40-Foot Embankment
Police said the man died of his injuries at the hospital.
HIGHLANDS, NY — A man from the Bronx was killed Saturday when his BMW went down an embankment in Orange County.
The New York State Police said, around 12:30 a.m. Saturday, troopers responded to Long Mountain Traffic Circle for a report of a one-car crash with someone entrapped.
The preliminary investigation found Pierre D. Brooks, 29, from the Bronx, was driving a 2000 BMW when for unknown reasons the car left the roadway on the northeast shoulder and traveled about 40 feet down an embankment.

Brooks, who was the driver and only occupant, was ejected from the car.
Life-saving measures were immediately begun by troopers and Town of Highlands police when they arrived.

Brooks was extracted successfully and taken to Westchester Medical Center by the Town of Highlands EMS.
While at the hospital, he died of his injuries, police said.
Troopers were assisted by the Fort Montgomery Fire Department High Angle Rescue Team, Town of Highlands Police Department and Fort Montgomery Paramedics.
The investigation is ongoing, police said.
