Marist Coronavirus Outbreak: Some Remain In Isolation

The college suspended in-person dining and some facilities on the campus remain closed.

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY — Marist College continues to deal with additional cases of the new coronavirus at the town of Poughkeepsie school.

On Sunday, school officials said the college had identified several new coronavirus infections, which affected students living in Leo and Sheahan halls.

Those facilities were placed in a precautionary quarantine, but the temporary quarantine for Sheahan Hall was lifted Monday after tests of students potentially exposed to the virus came back negative.

Also on Monday school officials said that, while in-person classes would continue as scheduled, in-person dining would be paused and students would be encouraged to eat in their rooms with their roommates. Leo Hall's precautionary quarantine would continue, and McCann Recreation Center will remain closed until further notice, while being used as a testing facility.

Lower West Cedar Townhouses were place into a precautionary quarantine on Tuesday.

As of Wednesday, the Marist College COVID-19 Dashboard said there had been a total of 8,831 tests administered this semester, with 81 testing positive, one of whom was an employee.

Forty-seven individuals were cleared by the medical team to return to campus. There are 19 active cases in isolation at home or off campus and 14 in isolation house on campus.
