Newburgh Man Driving With Open Alcohol Container, Cocaine: Police

State police initially pulled the man over for a traffic violation in Middletown.

MIDDLETOWN, NY — A Newburgh man was accused of drunken driving and having illegal drugs after a traffic stop in the city of Middletown Thursday night.

The New York State Police said troopers stopped a 2004 red Infinity Q56 for a traffic violation around 11:50 p.m. on East Main Street in Middletown.

Ulee Johnson, 41, of the city of Newburgh, was identified as the driver.

Police said, while speaking with him, they saw an open bottle of alcohol and plastic cups containing alcohol.

It was determined that Johnson was impaired by alcohol and was arrested.

Troopers said a search of the car found 5.7 grams of cocaine.

Johnson was charged with driving while impaired, a misdemeanor, and third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and fourth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, both felonies.

There was an additional charge for violating probation, police said.

Johnson was processed and taken to the Orange County Jail pending a virtual arraignment in Montgomery Town Court.
