Orange County Deputy Executive Named To MTA Board

GOSHEN, NY — Orange County Deputy County Executive Harry Porr has been named to the Metropolitan Transportation Authority Board.

“Harry continues to play an important role in my administration and this appointment is well-deserved,” Orange County Executive Steven M. Neuhaus said. “Harry has a track record of accomplishing projects in an efficient manner. I know that he will be an asset to the MTA Board and will continue to work effectively for Orange County’s residents.”

The MTA is governed by a 21-member board. Members are nominated by the governor, with four recommended by New York City’s mayor and one each by the county executives of Nassau, Suffolk, Westchester, Dutchess, Orange, Rockland and Putnam counties (the members representing the latter four cast one collective vote).

In appointing Porr, Gov. Andrew Cuomo said he was pleased that Porr was willing to accept this appointment and was confident that he will serve the people of the state with dedication and distinction.

The MTA is North America’s largest transportation network, serving a population of 15.3 million people across a 5,000-square mile travel area surrounding New York City through Long Island, southeastern New York State, and Connecticut. Its network compromises the nation’s largest bus fleet and more subway and commuter rail cars than all other U.S. transit systems combined. The MTA’s operating agencies are MTA New York City Transit, MTA Bus, Long Island Railroad, Metro-North Railroad and MTA Bridges and Tunnels.

Neuhaus appointed Porr as deputy county executive in August 2018. He previously served as the county’s director of operations for more than four years. Prior to that, Porr worked as the village administrator of Bronxville in Westchester County. During his career, Porr also worked as city manager of Newburgh, city of Long Beach in Nassau County and in the administration of former County Executive Louis Heimbach.

“My goal is to help achieve a transportation system that is safe, clean, reliable and affordable,” Porr said.
