Orange County Inmate Attempts Suicide

The sheriff's office said the man was taken to the hospital where he is under care.

GOSHEN, NY — An Orange County Jail inmate is in the hospital after what jail officials said was an apparent attempt to take his own life.

The Orange County Sheriff's Office said in a news release that the 26-year-old man tried to kill himself by hanging shortly before 3 p.m. Tuesday.

Jail officials said he was being housed in one of the medical units inside the facility.

County corrections officers, along with facility medical staff, immediately began medical interventions by performing CPR until additional medical personnel arrived.

The man was taken to Garnett Health Medical Center in the town of Wallkill by Goshen Volunteer Ambulance and Mobile Life Support Services where is currently under care, authorities said.

The sheriff's office said the New York State Commission of Correction was notified because it was a mandatory reportable incident.
