Orange County Man, 2 Juveniles Accused Of Having Illegal Weapon

Police said there was a brief pursuit during which a loaded pistol was tossed from the car.

MIDDLETOWN, NY — An Orange County man and two juveniles were accused of having a loaded illegal weapon after being stopped while driving in Middletown.

The New York State Police said, around 10:15 p.m. Thursday, troopers saw a 2014 BMW 528i in violation of the state vehicle and traffic law traveling on Prospect Avenue in the city of Middletown.

The car was stopped at East Main and Grand streets, and troopers interviewed the driver, Sol Maysonet, 21, of Middletown.

There were two young people in the car, police said, and troopers could detect the smell of marijuana coming from the BMW.

Maysonet was asked to get out of the car, but he refused.

He put the car into drive and took off.

Troopers, along with members of the City of Middletown Police Department, pursued the car to Prince Street, where the vehicle came to a stop.

Police said that during the pursuit something was seen being thrown from the car.

All three occupants of the car were taken into custody.

Troopers said they found a loaded .22 caliber pistol that had been tossed from the car.

Maysonet and the two juveniles were charged with second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, criminal possession of a firearm and tampering with physical evidence, felonies.

Maysonet was also charged with obstruction of governmental administration, a misdemeanor, and second-degree unlawful possession of marijuana, a violation.

He was sent to the Orange County Jail for pre-arraignment holding.

The two juveniles will be arraigned virtually at the Youth part of Orange County Criminal Court.
