Pedestrian Struck, Killed On Route 17 In Wallkill

State police said the initial investigation found the man was walking along the shoulder and stepped into the right lane.

WALLKILL, NY — A pedestrian on the highway in the town of Wallkill was struck and killed by a tractor trailer Tuesday morning.

State police in Middletown said the accident on Route 17 occurred shortly before 6 a.m.

The initial investigation found that a tractor trailer which was traveling east struck an unidentified man walking on the shoulder as he stepped into the right lane, police said.

Anyone who may have witnessed the crash or anyone walking along Route 17 around that time is asked to call the state police at the Middletown barracks at 845-344-5300. Reference sjs-9955497.

Police said the investigation is ongoing.
