Poughkeepsie Pair Accused Of Drug Possession

They were stopped initially for a traffic violation in the town of Newburgh.

NEWBURGH, NY — Two Dutchess County residents were accused of being in possession of illegal drugs after an early morning traffic stop in the town of Newburgh.

Around 2:30 a.m. Saturday, the New York State Police said a trooper stopped a 2007 Nissan Versa for a state traffic violation.

While speaking with the driver, Saiyquana Reed, 21, of the city of Poughkeepsie, the trooper said there was the smell of marijuana coming from inside the car.

Reed and her passenger, Darwin Santos, 21, of the town of Poughkeepsie, were asked to get out of the car while the vehicle was searched.

The trooper said marijuana and numerous plastic bags containing heroin and amphetamine.

Reed and Santos were charged with third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and fourth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, felonies.

Reed was additionally charged with second-degree unlawful possession of marijuana, a violation.

Santos was also charged with fifth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, intent to sell, a felony.

The pair were released on appearance tickets returnable to the Town of Newburgh Court April 20.
