Resorts World Laying Off Workers In Hudson Valley
The hotel and casino have been closed because of restrictions caused by the new coronavirus.

MONTICELLO, NY — More than 1,200 employees at the Resorts World Catskills in Sullivan County are receiving layoff notices this week. The hotel and casino has been closed because of the state's new coronavirus restrictions.
Genting, the Malaysian casino magnate that owns Resorts World, said Monday the 1,256 notices were sent out as required by the federal WARN Act, the Times Herald-Record reported.
Also being laid off are 955 employees at the Resorts World New York City casino at Aqueduct Racetrack in Queens.

A spokesperson for Resorts World Catskills said that, unfortunately, several weeks after ceasing operations in March, they were forced to make the difficult decision to furlough some of their employees. As part of that process, they were required by law to issue WARN letters to the furloughed staff.
“We continue to work with our State partners, whose leadership has been instrumental in bending and flattening the COVID-19 curve, to institute additional safety protocols, including installing advanced filtration systems, noninvasive temperature checks, proper distancing on the gaming floor, and the requirement that masks be worn at all times,” the resort said. “As New York continues its phased reopening, which includes retail stores and now malls as well, we are optimistic that we will also be able to reopen our doors soon.”
