Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree On Its Way To NYC
A 77-foot Norway spruce in Orange County was cut down Thursday and will be set up in Manhattan Saturday.
FLORIDA, NY — A 77-foot Norway spruce tree is on its way from Orange County to Manhattan to be set up and decorated as this year's Rockefeller Center Christmas tree. It was cut down Thursday in Florida and will arrive and be raised at the plaza Saturday in Manhattan.
The tree was planted as a sapling by Carol Schultz in Florida in the late 1950s and she first submitted photos of it to Rockefeller Center in 2010, News 12 reported.
The 87th Christmas Tree Lighting will take place Dec. 4, according to a Rockefeller Center blog.

Last year the tree that was chosen was a 72-foot Norway spruce from Wallkill in Ulster County.
As in past years, after the tree is taken down, it will be donated to Habitat for Humanity where it will be recycled for lumber.
