Sergeant At Greene Correctional Accused Of Rape

Authorities said the officer engaged in forcible sex acts with the victim from 2009 to 2011.

COXSACKIE, NY — A sergeant at Greene Correctional Facility was accused of rape and faces four felonies.

The New York State Police said Steven Gogger, 44, of Athens, Greene County, was arrested Wednesday and charged with first-degree rape, third-degree rape, first-degree criminal sex act and first-degree sex abuse, felonies.

According to the authorities, on March 1, State Police Catskill BCI was contacted by the state Department of Corrections and Community Supervision after the agency was made aware of a possible rape by one of its employees.

The investigation found that Gogger, a sergeant at Greene Correctional Facility, engaged in forcible sex acts with the victim from 2009 to 2011.

Gogger was arraigned before a town of Athens justice and sent to the Greene County Jail in lieu of $10,000 bail, $20,000 secured bond or $100,000 partial bond.

The justice issued an order of protection, and Gogger was ordered to turn over all firearms.

A spokesman for state police did not immediately respond to a question about the relationship between the victim and Gogger.
