MID-HUDSON VALLEY, NY — UPDATE: The severe thunderstorm warning for Columbia, Dutchess and Ulster counties has been extended until 8 p.m. Wednesday.


PREVIOUS VERSION: A severe thunderstorm warning has been issued for northeastern Dutchess and southwestern Columbia counties.

The warning is in effect until 7 p.m. Wednesday.

Shortly after 6 p.m., a severe thunderstorm was located over Saugerties, moving southeast at 20 mph.

The National Weather Service said the storm contains 60 mph wind gusts and quarter-size hail.

Hail damage to vehicles is expected. Wind damage is also expected to roofs, siding and trees.

Prepare immediately for large hail and damaging winds. People outside should move to a shelter, inside a strong building and away from windows.
