MID-HUDSON VALLEY, NY — The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for parts of the mid-Hudson Valley.

The warning is in effect until 3:45 p.m. Wednesday for southeastern Ulster County and Dutchess County.

At 203 PM EDT, a severe thunderstorm was located near Gardnertown, or near Newburgh, moving northeast at 40 mph.

HAZARD...60 mph wind gusts and quarter size hail.

IMPACT...Hail damage to vehicles is expected. Expect wind damage to roofs, siding, and trees.

Locations impacted include Poughkeepsie, Beacon, New Paltz, Rhinebeck, Pawling, Wallkill, Hyde Park, Milton, Plattekill, Pleasant Valley, Wappingers Falls, Amenia, Highland, Fishkill, Millbrook, Modena, Stanfordville, Fairview, Hopewell Junction and Marlboro.

For your protection move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building, the National Weather Service said.

Large hail, damaging winds and frequent cloud to ground lightning is occurring with this storm. Move indoors immediately. Lightning is one of nature`s leading killers. Remember, if you can hear thunder, you are close enough to be struck by lightning.
