Severe Thunderstorm Warning For Parts Of Mid-Hudson Valley

MID-HUDSON VALLEY, NY — A severe thunderstorm warning was issued for southeastern Ulster County in east central New York and central Dutchess County in east central New York.

The warning is in effect until 4:45 p.m., the National Weather Service said.

At 3:43 p.m., a severe thunderstorm was located over High Falls, or near New Paltz, moving east at 20 mph.

HAZARD...60 mph wind gusts and penny size hail.

SOURCE...Radar indicated.

IMPACT...Expect damage to roofs, siding, and trees.

Locations impacted include Poughkeepsie, New Paltz, Hyde Park, Pleasant Valley, Highland, Millbrook, Modena, High Falls, Stanfordville, Tillson, Fairview, Red Oaks Mill, Staatsburg, Beekman, Lloyd, Esopus, Rosendale, Gardiner, Tuckers Corner and Salt Point.

Large hail and damaging winds and continuous cloud to ground lightning is occurring with this storm. Move indoors immediately. Lightning is one of nature's leading killers. Remember, if you can hear thunder, you are close enough to be struck by lightning. Torrential rainfall is occurring with this storm, and may lead to flash flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways.
