Staatsburg Man Killed In Marine Plane Crash

Five marines were killed in a crash involving a refueling aircraft and a fighter jet.

STAATSBURG, NY — A Dutchess County Marine was among those who died in a plane crash off the southern coast of Japan last week. Maj. James M. Brophy, 36, of Staatsburg, was aboard a refueling aircraft that collided with a fighter jet Dec. 6.

Brophy is survived by his wife, son and daughter, the Poughkeepsie Journal said.

He served in the Marine Corps for 12 years.

Four other Marines were killed in the crash. There was only one survivor, who was on the fighter jet.
