Ulster County Declares State Of Emergency

Public transportation has been suspended and the Ulster County Office Building is closed to the public.

KINGSTON, NY — A state of emergency due to the winter storm was declared in Ulster County Monday.

County Executive Pat Ryan said the area is experiencing heavy snowfall and it is expected to accumulate well into Tuesday.

Because road conditions are very dangerous, he is asking all residents to stay off the roads.

Right now, Ryan said, the DPW is operating 39 snow plows, five mountain snow plow routes and almost 20 pickups with plows to clear the roads as fast as possible.

For residents in need of a warm place to stay, the Ulster County Warming Center, located in the 2nda Iglesia La Mision Church at 80 Elmendorf St. in Kingston, is open. The center's phone number is 845-481-4665.
