Ulster Resident Accused Of Using Tire Thumper To Injure Man
Police said the victim was walking along the highway when he was hit several times.
ACCORD, NY — An Ulster County man was arrested after being accused of hitting someone with a tire thumper.
The New York State Police said, shortly before 10:30 a.m. Monday, troopers arrested Don Mackenzie, 53, of Accord, and charged him with second-degree assault, a felony, and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, a misdemeanor.
Police said the preliminary investigation found that Mackenzie, for reasons that are not known, struck a 23-year-old man with a tire thumper.

The victim was walking along Route 213 in the town of Ulster when, police said, Mackenzie struck him in the head, body and arms.
A passerby stopped to render aid to the victim and called 911.

Police said the victim sustained a cut to the back of his head and a fractured arm. He was treated at Kingston Hospital and released.
Mackenzie was arraigned in the Town of Ulster Court and released on his own recognizance. He is scheduled to return to court March 24.
