Warwick HS Lacrosse Goalie Dies At 16

The school district superintendent said counseling is being offered to students and school personnel.

WARWICK, NY — The Warwick community is mourning the loss of a 16-year-old student. Warwick Valley High School sophomore Allison Lorraine Kidney died Jan. 6. According to a post on the school district’s website, Kidney was a teammate on the Warwick girls junior varsity and varsity lacrosse teams.

“She was accepted and encouraged by her teammates and, as goalie, was instrumental in the varsity team’s Section 9, Class B championship,” said Coach Denis O’Connor.

Superintendent Dr. David Leach offered the district’s “heartfelt sympathy to Allison’s family at this very difficult time.”

He said the family has requested privacy in their time of mourning.

Counselors were made available to students and school personnel who might need support and grief counseling.

Kidney is survived by her parents, Bryan and Kristie Kidney, her brother Ian, paternal grandmother Lois Kidney, maternal grandparents Katherine and Peter Turner as well as aunts, uncles and cousins.

Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 10 at Lazear-Smith & Vander Plaat Memorial Home, 17 Oakland Ave. in Warwick. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 11, at St. Stephen Roman Catholic Church, 75 Sandfordville Rd. in Warwick. Interment will follow at St. Stephen’s Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Purple Champions Club — Girls Lacrosse, 89 Sanfordville Rd., Warwick, NY 10990 or the Warwick Valley Humane Society, P.O. Box 61, 48 Public Works Rd., Warwick, NY 10990.
