Woman Tries Swallowing Cocaine To Avoid Arrest: Police
Police said the woman faces two felonies, including one for tampering with evidence.
LIVINGSTON, NY — A Columbia County woman was accused of trying to avoid getting arrested for drug possession by eating the evidence.
The New York State Police said, shortly before 5 p.m. Thursday, troopers stopped a 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee for a traffic violation on Route 9 in the town of Livingston.
An investigation found Brigid Fonda, 54, of Livingston, had about 7 grams of cocaine.

Police said, once the cocaine had been discovered, the woman tried to destroy it by swallowing it.
Fonda also actively resisted arrest, according to authorities.

She was arrested and charged with fourth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and tampering with physical evidence, felonies, and seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and resisting arrest, misdemeanors.
Fonda was arraigned in the Town of Livingston Court and released on her own recognizance to reappear Aug. 5.
