Dozens To Be Laid Off From Mineola Manufacturing Plant

A.K. Allen Co., Inc. will lay off 69 people when its plant closes later this year.

Dozens of people are going to be laid off because a manufacturing plant in Mineola is slated to close later this year.

According to filings with the state Labor Department, 69 people are going to be laid off when the Allenair Corporation, A.K. Allen Co., Inc. and Allen Avionics, Inc., all located at 255 East Second St. in Mineola, close.

The Allenair Corporation was created in 1945 by Alton K. Allen, according to the company's website. In 1958, the company relocated from Brooklyn to Mineola, and its current factory takes up five acres. The company manufactures air cylinders for machinery. Today, Allenair and Allen Avionics are subsidiaries of A.K. Allen Co.
