  1. The Mineola Board of Education got the greenlight to purchase a new building at 2400 Jericho Turnpike to expand the Mineola High School campus, with Tuesday's vote results totaling 499 in favor to 249 (66 percent). Known as the Sperry Building, the facility is directly across the street from Mineola High School in Garden City Park, on a 1.5 acre piece of property that will be devoted to a new program called Synergy. 2. Prominent business people in our area were honored last week at the Nassau Council of Chambers of Commerce 36th annual awards program. Two Mineola residents and members of the Mineola Chamber of Commerce were recognized for their achievements: Ross Levine, principal of L&L Painting Co., founder and principal of Third St. Associates/Bridge Ventures and founder of Cuse Capital; and John F. MacAvoy, who works with Hanover Bank and is also a member of the New Hyde Park and Forest Hills Chambers of Commerce. (The Island Now)
  3. With the holiday shopping season right around the corner ? and shortages of items and shipping delays expected ? why not venture out and shop local in one of our many vibrant retail districts? Here, 13 special Long Island downtowns are highlighted, and our own Mineola made the list as well as nearby Garden City, Westbury and Great Neck. (Long Island Press)
