Ironworker ‘Seriously Injured’ At Mineola LIRR Station: MTA
BREAKING: The woman is in critical condition. "Our thoughts and prayers are with her, her family, and our crews.": Janno Lieber, MTA
MINEOLA, NY — An ironworker was seriously injured when a crane came in contact with a high voltage line that created an electrical arc to a bridge she was on at the Long Island Rail Road station in Mineola on Saturday, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority said in a statement.
At about 9:30 a.m., the worker, a woman whose name was not released, was on a pedestrian bridge under construction as part of the LIRR’s third track project when she was “seriously injured,” said Janno Lieber, president of the MTA’s Construction and Development.
News12 Long Island reported that police told them that paramedics performed CPR on the woman, and Lieber said she was “immediately” rushed to a local hospital where she is in critical condition.

No further details were released by the agency. Trains were not running from the Mineola train station, or that of the New Hyde Park, Merillon Avenue, Carle Place, and Westbury stations on Saturday due to signal work on Saturday.
One Twitter user reported hearing an explosion near the station, and another, saw a large police presence later.
Work on the project has stopped while the agency has launched a full investigation, Lieber said. The agency is “reviewing all safety protocols and procedures on site” and officials plan to continue to “provide more information as it becomes available,” he added.
