Frederick A. Pilkington, 90, Former Assistant Mineola High School Principal
Army WWII veteran passed away on July 16, 2013.

Frederick A. Pilkington passed away on July 16, 2013 at his home in Camano Island, WA, at the age of 90 due to complications with pneumonia.
Pilkington was born in the Bronx in 1922. He was on his was to attaining an English degree with an art minor at Hartwick College before joining the Army in 1942. During his Army career he received both the Purple Heart and Bronze Star. After the war he finished his degree in 1945 and married Ethel May Secor.
Primarilly a West Hempstead resident, Pilkington lived in East Meadow in 1950 to teach art at Hempstead High School before becoming chairman of the fine arts department and then assistant principal in 1961. In 1971, he became assistant principal of Mineola High School. He also served as the president of the Long Island and New York State art teachers associations. He retired in 1979 from both school district duties and as a colonel in the Army Reserves.
