Head Start Program Helps Kindergarteners Practice Skills Early
The two-week summer program teaches nonnative English speakers with the vocabulary and structure they will need during the school year.

The Mineola Union Free School District’s Head Start Program helps to acquaint nonnative English speaking kindergarteners with the vocabulary and structure of a school day prior to the official school year.
Guided by three elementary-level teachers, students learn English phonetics and spelling, along with basic reading and writing skills, and gain a “head start” on the school year.
Approximately 30 students are taking advantage of the two-week summer program this year.
