Long Island Hour-By-Hour Four'easter Forecast

Yes, the fourth nor'easter of the month is set to clobber the island and snow total estimates have increased yet again.

March came in like a lion and now that lion just refuses to go away. Despite spring's arrival on the calendar, Long Islanders are bracing for a remarkable fourth nor'easter in less than a month.

A winter storm warning has been extended to the entire island and will be in effect from 6 a.m. Wednesday until 6 a.m. Thursday. A total of 11-15 inches of snow is now expected to accumulate in Nassau County and western Suffolk County. The Twin Forks are in line for 9-12 inches. Many school districts have already announced snow days for Wednesday. See a list of closings here.

Snow should begin falling by sunrise Wednesday and it will become heavy in the afternoon with snowfall rates of 1-2 inches an hour likely, according to the National Weather Service.

"Unlike previous storms, this airmass is colder and drier and with the onset of the moderate to heavy snowfall, temperatures will likely remain at or below freezing for much of the event," the NWS says.
