LIRR: No Trains Between Hicksville and Mineola This Weekend

Railroad officials urge riders to avoid the Port Jefferson and Ronkonkoma branches.

If you’re going to the Rangers game Saturday or rooting on the Mets at Citi Field this weekend, avoiding the Port Jefferson and Ronkonkoma branches is a good idea.

Rail service between Hicksville and Mineola will be suspended for 48 hours starting at midnight Saturday so the LIRR can replace the Ellison Avenue Bridge, which spans the LIRR’s Main Line tracks through the Village of Westbury. All Ronkonkoma and Port Jefferson branch trains pass under the bridge on a daily basis.

Buses will replace some trains and other trains will be rerouted, but LIRR officials are “strongly” urging riders to just avoid the Port Jefferson and Ronkonkoma branches altogether this weekend. If you do insist on traveling on one of those branches, you should allow up to 60 minutes of extra travel time, officials say.
