LIRR Train Strikes Car
BREAKING: Service is suspended on three LIRR branches after the fiery collision Friday night.

A car that reportedly stalled on the Long Island Rail Road tracks in Mineola went up in flames after a train smashed into it Friday night.
According to Nassau Police, a non-passenger LIRR train struck the car at the Mineola train station located at Main Street and Willis Avenue at 7:50 p.m. The car and part of a nearby building caught fire.
The driver of the car was able to escape before the collision. News 12 has reported that the car stalled on the tracks.

The building as well as the train was evacuated. No injuries were reported. The Mineola Fire Department put out the blaze.
LIRR service is temporarily suspended east of Mineola in both directions on the Huntington/Port Jefferson, Ronkonkoma and Oyster Bay branches, the LIRR said on its website at 8:50 p.m. Commuters are urged to use alternate branches such as Hempstead or Babylon/Montauk if possible.

The Mineola station is likely to be out of service through the weekend due to extensive track damage caused by the crash, police said.
