Mineola-Area Fourth Of July Fireworks 2020 Canceled
Mineola's traditional Fourth of July events may be canceled, but there are several other ways you can celebrate the holiday safely.
MINEOLA, NY — Fourth of July events will not look the same this year across the country thanks to the coronavirus, and the same is unfortunately true on Long Island. While many in Mineola typically head to the annual East Hills fireworks show, the village mayor said the event will not be held this year. And those hoping to head to Jones Beach for the annual fireworks show will also be disappointed — that event also will not be held this year.
Although Mineola-area fireworks, parades and 5Ks have been put on hold, residents will likely still be able to enjoy drive-in movies in the area. The Town of North Hempstead, for example, launched a free, weekend drive-in movie series, which filled North Hempstead Beach Park in Port Washington with carloads of families. The town has not yet released a schedule for July.
Additionally, indoor and outdoor dining will also be available for residents wanting to get out of the house, as long as the infection rate remains down. Beaches across Long Island remain open as well, including Jones Beach and North Hempstead Beach Park, which reopened at half capacity.

Long Island is expected to enter phase three of reopening businesses next week, allowing non hair service-related personal care businesses to reopen, as well as indoor service at restaurants and bars. The reopening comes with severe restrictions, however, such as requiring people to wear masks, social distance from one another and limit capacity to 50 percent.
Due to the pandemic, counties or cities may adjust or cancel events at the last minute. Check your event before you go. Know of other events in the area? Post them on the Patch calendar or share details on our free Neighbor Post feature.
