Nassau Man Finds 'Metal Object' In Life Cereal: PHOTO
The supermarket says it will immediately check other cereal boxes for contaminants.
MINEOLA, NY — A Mineola man got quite the surprise while eating breakfast over the weekend after finding a "metal object" in his cereal. The man, who did not want to be identified, told Patch he found the metal inside his Life cereal after pouring it into a bowl Saturday. He bought the cereal from Western Beef Supermarket on 2nd Street.
"Thank god I [saw] it on my spoon when I was about to take my first bite," he wrote in a Facebook message Monday morning.

The man said he alerted the grocery chain and emailed Quaker Oats, the maker of the cereal, as well.

"People need to be cautious about potential factory objects in processed foods," he wrote in a Facebook message Monday.
He added: "I don’t want anyone to get hurt is all. If it was in my box it could be in others."

A manager at the Western Beef Supermarket location told Patch on Monday he was not aware of any metal or contamination involving the Life cereal. He said he opened a couple Life cereal boxes and did not find any metal. The product will remain on the shelves until Quaker Oats reaches out and issues an official recall.
Quaker Oats told Patch in a statement Tuesday morning that it would look into the issue.
"Product quality and safety are of the utmost importance to us and we take any reported incidents very seriously," the company said.
The cereal giant has safeguards to prevent such a contamination, including metal detectors, magnets and screens.
