3 Firefighters Hurt Battling Fire At Mineola Restaurant

Police say nearby roads were closed while firefighters battled a blaze at the eatery.

MINEOLA, NY — Three firefighters were hurt battling an inferno at a Mineola restaurant Thursday.

The blaze broke out around 12:40 p.m. Thursday, Nassau County police said. Police rushed to the blaze on Jericho Turnpike and found heavy flames coming from Piccola Bussola and an above apartment.

Multiple fire departments helped battle the blaze for two hours. Three firefighters who were injured were treated at the scene.

The cause of the blaze is under investigation.

Police closed off nearby sections of Jericho Turnpike and Willis Avenue while firefighters worked.

Video at the scene showed firefighters pouring water on the blaze from multiple ladder trucks. Heavy orange flames and thick black smoke could be seen shooting out of the building.

A spokesman for the restaurant told Patch on Thursday early indications are no one was in the restaurant when it ignited. The cause and exact origin of the blaze weren't immediately clear.

Owner Tony Lubrano was not in the building at the time.
