Helping the environment is of great interest for second-graders at Hampton Street School in the Mineola Union Free School District. As part of the STEAM initiative with Ms. Maynard, the school teamed up with Operation SPLASH and adopted two local storm drains.
Students are making weekly visits to the drains to collect any garbage or debris, which is then sorted, recorded and analyzed back in the classroom. As a result of this partnership, students are learning that they can make a tremendous difference in saving the earth and are proud to be active participants in improving the lives of ocean life.
