Nassau County Unveils App To Help With Drug Abuse, Mental Health

The "Nassau CARES" app will connect residents with local resources and information on how to get help.

MINEOLA, NY — Nassau County residents in need of addiction or mental health resources now have a new tool to help.

Laura Curran, the county executive, on Monday unveiled a new smartphone app dubbed "Nassau CARES" that aims to connect residents with resources and services in the community, making it easier to seek out information and receive treatment.

"‪Asking for help is hard," Curran wrote in a Facebook post. "Finding help can be even harder.‬"

The app provides users free — and confidential — information on mental health and substance use, as well as referrals, support, and crisis intervention.

Among the other resources users will find: links to opioid overdose and addiction; training on how to use overdose reversal drugs; access to local emergency services; information on how to find mental health or chemical dependency services; a 24/7 help-line where staff members answer questions and offer guidance and support; and links to other related community programs and services.
