Nassau Police Seek Medic Applicants

The police department is asking the public to consider applying for the position of medic.

NASSAU COUNTY, NY — The Nassau County Police Department is hiring medics, according to a social media post by the department. Police medics serve as the primary pre-hospital emergency care providers in the county.

Responsibilities include responding to 911 calls, coordinating documentation of patient care, ambulance management and providing emergency care like IV therapy, defibrillation, medication administration, endotracheal intubation and other techniques. Certification is renewed every three years.

  • High school diploma
  • Valid NYS driver's license
  • Certification as a NS EMT-CC or higher
  • Certification as a Nassau County ALS provider
  • Three years of satisfactory experience operating emergency vehicles
    • Completing the mandatory Emergency Vehicle Operators course can replace this

Pay ranges from $38,479 to $87,892.

Vacation

After six months, medics get five vacation days. After 12 months, five days are added. Then, one half of a vacation day is added to the pool every two weeks up to 11 days annually. After the second year, the maximum goes up to 13 days.

Personal Days

After six months, medics get three personal days. After two years, it goes up to four and after three years, it remains at five.

Sick Days

From the start date, half a sick day is added to the pool every two weeks up to 10 days per year for the first three years. After three years, the maximum increases to 13 sick days.

Other Benefits

There are contributory and non-contributory health plans available and contributory pension plans. Tax deferred savings plans are offered through Prudential.

To apply, pick up an application during office hours at the Nassau County Police Headquarters at 1490 Franklin Ave. in Mineola or at any of the eight precincts, the addresses of which can be found at the Nassau County Police Department website. Deliver the signed and notarized form to the Applicant Investigation Unit at the headquarters or mail them in.
