Over 100 In Mineola Without Power After Blustery Halloween Storm

More than 220,000 businesses and homes across the state lost power, ​including over 7,400 customers in both Nassau and Suffolk counties.

MINEOLA, NY — A blustery Halloween storm knocked out power to more than 220,000 businesses and homes across the state, including more than 7,400 customers in both Nassau and Suffolk counties. That includes about 100 residents on and around Macatee Place in Mineola.

PSEG Long Island wrote in its outage map that tree damage affected 103 customers. The utility said crews are on site and estimated they would see power around 4 p.m. Friday.

The utility wrote that heavy rain, strong winds and dangerous gusts caused "significant damage" across Long Island.

"It brought down large trees, branches and wires, affecting more than 54,000 of our 1.1 million customers," the utility said.

As of 7 a.m., more than 71 percent of customers affected had been restored as crews worked through the night in dangerous conditions to assess damage and make repairs. PSEG warned that more strong winds Friday could result in more outages.
