Man Arrested In Death Of Woman Struck By SUV

Nassau County police said the driver was high on drugs at the time of the crash Saturday night.

WILLISTON PARK, NY — A 29-year-old New Hyde Park man was arrested after fatally hitting a 74-year-old woman with his car Saturday in Williston Park, Nassau County police said.

David Bernardi was charged with second-degree vehicular manslaughter and driving while ability impaired by drugs, police said Sunday afternoon.

Police said Bernardi was driving a 2012 Nissan Rogue east on Hillside Avenue at about 8:25 p.m. Saturday when he struck the woman while she was trying to cross the south side of the avenue near Broad Street. The woman suffered multiple injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by a police medic.

Bernardi is scheduled to be arraigned in First District Court in Hempstead on Sunday.
