The Best Activities in Montauk, NY

Everything You Need To Have the Best Time in Montauk

Montauk. It’s the ultimate getaway. It’s the perfect place to get visit from the chaos of the city for the right amount of time - the weekend. If you’ve seen the hit Bravo Show “Summer House” you must be thinking, “Is drinking rosé and partying all there is to do in the Hamptons?” and the answer is no, simple as that. I for one am never the person to turn down rosé, and summer parties may be the best, there are so many other options to have a good time. If you are considering a hamptons weekend or looking for new activities to do while staying there, I’ve got you covered. I have compiled a short list of fun bars, sights, restaurants, and activities if you’re stumped and don’t want to do endless searching on the internet.

1. Montauk Point Light

A beautiful light house filled with character and history. The end to a perfect day. Just sit back, relax, and enjoy watching this beautiful sunset while drinking a glass of wine. It’s also a great spot for having a picnic, bringing a date, or just for some peace and serenity all by yourself to clear your soon-to be stress-free mind ( absolutely nothing wrong with that).

2. Camp Hero
This one is for all you Stranger Things fans out there! This historic site is supposedly the inspiration for the hit Netflix series. The history of this site is quite dark and controversial, however. This air force base during WWII allegedly used to be an underground lab experimenting on humans to obtain powers such as time travel and mind control in order to become war weapons just like the character Eleven. This area sure has an eerie feeling, but it is great for the person who loves to explore and have an adventure, and has a thing for fan theories. Supposedly before being called “Stranger Things” it was going to be called “Project Montauk”. For more information and theories on Camp Hero, visit the link below:

3. Liar’s saloon
One of Montauk’s most popular bars. And yes, it is a dive bar. Kind of strange to think of a dive bar being in the Hamptons, right? That's what makes this bar so great - and i’m sure locals will agree. It’s the perfect venue for when you just want to have an easy evening grabbing drinks with friends. Ditch your plans on yachting in the bay and head on over to this casual bar for a great time. And what makes this place even better? Karaoke. Enough said.

4. Gosman’s Dock
The spot for the summertime according to locals. This casual setting includes a stunning view of Montauk Harbour and the best seafood in the area. The dock is multipurpose including a rooftop deck, dining room, and a clam bar! And get ready to have the best lobster roll of your life. Vacationers who come to Montauk once a year make sure they go to Gosman’s at least once before leaving.

5. Ditch Plains, Montauk
It turns out you don’t have to go to Hawaii to surf! Gary Joyce calls it the premiere surfing spot on the east coast. Who would’ve thought! What makes it the best is the rock bottom of the area. It creates long peeling effects which produce the perfect wave. It isn't recommended for beginners, but great to watch if you’re in the mood for a show.

Well, there you have it. I hope these maybe sparked some ideas of where you’ll spend your time in beautiful Montauk. Remember, you don’t have to do the typical Gurney’s resort to have fun in a social setting. There are a wide range of activities to do in Montauk, and i’ve only covered a few.
