Bicyclist Dies After Being Hit By Drunken Driver: Cops

The driver was charged with DWI after the 28-year-old died, police say.

MONTAUK, NY — A bicyclist died after being hit by a drunken driver in Montauk, police said.

According to East Hampton Town Police, the crash occurred on Wednesday at 6:03 p.m. on Flamingo Avenue. Lisa L. Rooney was driving a 2019 Chevrolet Silverado northbound when her vehicle struck a man who was riding his bicycle northbound near Falcon Place.

The bicyclist, John James Usma-Quintero, 28, of Montauk, was transported by Montauk Ambulance to Stony Brook Southampton Hospital where he was pronounced dead, police said.

Rooney was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated; she is scheduled to be arraigned Thursday at East Hampton Town Justice Court, police said. Detectives are asking anyone who may have information or who may have witnessed the crash to call East Hampton Town Police at 631-537-7575.
