Man Charged With DWI Gives Police Forged License: Cops

He was stopped for failing to keep right and making an unsafe turn and found to be intoxicated with a forged license, police say.

MONTAUK, NY — A Mastic Beach man was arrested after he was caught driving while intoxicated — with a forged license, police said.

According to East Hampton Town Police, Miguel A. Martinez, 21, was arrested on March 24 at 6:04 p.m. on Montauk Hwy. near South Emory St. after he was stopped for a traffic violation and produced a forged New York State drivers' license. He was charged with second degree possession of a forged instrument, a felony, police said.

In addition, he was stopped for failing to keep right and making an unsafe turn without signaling when required, police said. Upon investigation, officers determined that there was a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on his breath, his speech was slurred, his eyes were bloodshot and glassy, and he was observed to be unsteady on his feet; he also performed poorly on all standardized field sobriety tests administered, police said. He was charged with operating a motor vehicle with .08 of 1% alcohol or more in blood, first offense, a misdemeanor, and driving while intoxicated, first offense, a misdemeanor, police said.

Cash bail was set at $400, police said.
