MONTAUK, NY — A heartbroken woman is desperately seeking help to find her missing dog and bring her home safely.

Kate Usher, of Montauk, was traveling on a rare family trip this week when she got word that her beloved dog of nine years, Miley, had been let out of the house and gone missing on Monday.

Usher immediately made plans to head back to Montauk and in the meantime, a caring community is galvanizing to help search for Miley.

Speaking with Patch, her voice filled with tears, Usher said Miley was let out by someone working at her house Monday and "she never came back."

"Please contact me if you are willing to join the search party," she wrote on Facebook Monday. "There has been no sighting of her since she went missing yesterday. I am completely heartbroken. My angel."

Miley, she said, went missing Monday between 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. from North Fleming Court in Montauk. She is a pit bull mix, 10 years old, about 60 lbs. and "plump looking", and is brown with black coloring, gray on her snout, and a white chest. She also responds to "Piggy" and "Angel," she said. Miley has arthritis, she added.

Miley, she said, is very timid with strangers and doesn't like children. "She's probably freezing at this point. I always put a jacket on her at this time of year," Usher said.

Usher, who will be back by early Wednesday, described the bond she shares with her four-footed friend.

"She's my whole world," she said.

Usher found Miley abandoned in the Bronx when she was 18. "She's literally taught me about love and companionship," Usher said. "She's been my constant, my whole life."

Usher said she normally finds it hard to travel and leave Miley behind but this was a family trip with her mother and brother. She is wracked with worry about her lost dog.

Miley, she said, sleeps with her every night "like a human. She's my sidekick."

If you see Miley, do not chase her; she comes for treats. Text Dell Cullum, who is helping with the search, at 631-377-6555, or call Usher at 516-521-0953.
