MONTAUK, NY — An iconic Montauk property is on the market: The Plaza in downtown Montauk is up for sale.
According to a listing by Douglas Elliman Real Estate, the 12,000 square foot commercial shopping plaza, home to the longtime Plaza Surf 'N Sports, where a restaurant is also now sited, is up for grabs at $8,900,000.
Located at 716 Montauk Highway in Montauk, the property is located in the center of the business district, with the "highest foot and vehicular traffic in Montauk," according to the listing.

"In the Ferraro family for decades, Plaza Sports has been an integral part of the Montauk community. It's the place where many a child, including Peter's pro hockey player and Olympian sons, Peter and Chris, got their hockey sticks and other sporting gear," said Gregory Mansley, the agent representing the property:
Mansley assured that the business will remain open on-site. "Otherwise, parents would have to drive to Riverhead to get sneakers for their kids," he said.
Ferraro, he said, will absolutely keep a retail presence open but reduce the footprint of the commercial space a bit and increase a focus on online sales.
The store, which opened in 1972, holds deep memories for athletes young and old. Owner Peter Ferraro's Olympian athlete sons are also identical twins. They were the second set of identical twins to play on the same NHL team, the New York Rangers during the 1995–1996 NHL hockey season; the first was Ron and Rich Sutter.
East Hampton Town, Mansley said, had given the go-ahead for three retail shops downstairs in the plaza.
With a Jamaican eatery located at the former Wok & Roll, Mansley said he would like to see a new Chinese restaurant also open at the plaza. "We don't have a Chinese restaurant now in Montauk," he said.
