10 Adults, 1 Child Injured As Kayakers Struck By Ferry in Hudson River: NYPD
Police said 11 people were injured, with five taken to area hospitals, after they were struck by a ferry near Pier 79 in Midtown.
NEW YORK, NY — Police said 11 people were injured, with five taken to area hospitals, after a group of kayakers was struck by a ferry in the Hudson River near Pier 79 in Midtown on Tuesday.
Of the injured, 10 were adults and one was a child, police said. One adult was taken to Bellevue Hospital with a serious cut to his arm, the FDNY said. The other four were considered minor injuries, according to the FDNY. The accident happened at about 6 p.m.
Police were still investigating what caused the accident, but said the boat's pilot tested negative for drugs or alcohol.

The kayaks were struck by a NY Waterway ferry backing out of the pier near 40th Street, police said. NYPD rescue boats pulled aboard the injured people, and could be seen collecting the floating kayaks in the Hudson. Everyone was accounted for after initial reports indicated the NYPD was searching for more survivors.
