NEW YORK CITY — A swath of city schools across Brooklyn and Queens will reopen next week after days of state-imposed closures.

All told, 103 schools will return to in-person classes Oct. 26, according to a newly-released list by the city's Department of Education.

The schools fell in "red" and "orange" zones with restrictions set by Gov. Andrew Cuomo to contain localized coronavirus hotspots. Cuomo redrew the maps this week as cases improved in some spots, which allowed the schools to enter "yellow" zones where they can reopen.

"Letters have gone to impacted principals, with information to share with their families," a DOE spokesperson wrote.

Yellow zones schools have to undergo weekly coronavirus testing under state rules. There will be 414 schools in those zones citywide, officials said.

The first round of tests unfolded this week over 125 school buildings, officials said.

"We have received 5,030 test results, with a total of 9 positives—for a positivity rate of 0.18 percent," a DOE spokesperson wrote in a statement. "Of the positives, 5 were staff, and 4 were students."

In addition, the city previously closed 16 schools before the state's color-coded system took effect. Those schools will reopen next week, officials said.
