3 More States Added To NY Coronavirus Quarantine List

NEW YORK CITY — The Great Lakes State is under blockade. Virginia is for lovers but not New York travel. And the Buckeyes stop at the border.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced three new additions to the state’s coronavirus quarantine travel list — and they’re big ones.

Michigan, Ohio and Virginia are among the now-38 states and territories with significant COVID-19 community spread, according to a release. Their additions narrow the list of states New Yorkers can travel to or out-of-state travelers can come from without dealing with a 14-day mandatory quarantine.

"As we go into the fall, and the numbers nationwide are going up, we must work to keep our numbers down — and that's going to take every New Yorker wearing their masks, socially distancing and being New York Tough to maintain our progress,” Cuomo said in a statement.

New York has seen localized “hotspots” of coronavirus infections but those remain isolated. The state’s overall coronavirus positive test stood at 1.2 percent without those “red zones” and 4.13 percent within them.

By contrast, the states on the quarantine list have either an area with a 10 percent or higher positivity rate over a seven-day rolling average or 10 per 100,000 residents over a seven-day rolling average.
