NEW YORK, NY — Brace yourselves, tiger moms (and dads) of the cutthroat New York City private school circuit. The results are in for what has come to be pretty much the go-to ranking in non-public K-12 education: Niche.com's annual list of the "Best Private Schools In America."

To the naked eye, there aren't many huge differences between last year's list and the list for 2018 (below). But through the military-grade kid-prestige goggles of an NYC private school parent, we've got some major upsets on our hands.

The ruthless, take-no-prisoners, $50,000-per-year Dalton School on the Upper East Side, for one, has dropped three whole spots, from No. 3 to No. 6 — placing it, quite devastatingly, in the shadow of Riverdale Country School in the Bronx. Several other Upper East Side favorites — including Ramaz, Marymount and Spence — have also flopped a few spots down.

And on the up-and-up, beating out those latter three, we see the Berkeley Carroll School in Park Slope sliding in at No. 15 — a whopping seven spots higher than last year.

If that's not enough to set off a PTA flame war across the waters of the East River, we don't know what is.

So perhaps we're instigators, but here goes: Below, we've separated out the Top 63 private schools in NYC from Niche's nationwide list. All are within the state's Top 150, and all earned a Niche grade of A- or higher.

The rankings are "based on rigorous analysis of key statistics and millions of reviews from students and parents," according to Niche. "Ranking factors include SAT/ACT scores, the quality of colleges that students consider, student-teacher ratio, private school ratings, and more." (Still seeing red over your kid's school ranking?
