Bronx Bakery Was Secret Drug Hub, Prosecutors Say

NEW YORK CITY — The white powder at this Bronx bakery wasn't just powdered sugar, New York's drug prosecutors say.

A drug ring that took over a Mott Haven bakery — and turned it into what one New Yorker called "crack head city" — was busted in The Bronx Wednesday, said New York City’s Special Narcotics Prosecutor Bridget G. Brennan.

Leader Jack "Tone" Acevedo and his crew face criminal charges for allegedly selling heroin and cocaine out of KN Mi Delicia Bakery and Coffee Shop on Third Avenue and East 147th Street between August 2019 and February 2020, said prosecutors.

"We hope these arrests bring relief to the beleaguered residents and business owners of Mott Haven," said Brennan, "who have endured brazen drug trafficking in this area for far too long."

New York Strike Force operatives witnessed dealers selling drugs outside the bakery and stashing cash inside, said prosecutors.

During the bust, cops raided Acevedo's NYCHA Mott Haven Houses home on East 143rd Street and Willis Avenue Wednesday and found about $50,000 cash and ziplock bags stuffed with suspected heroin and cocaine, said prosecutors.

The multi-state bust resulted in 14 arrests in New York, New Jersey and Massachusetts, said prosecutors.

Those arrested in New York City face arraignment in Manhattan Supreme Court Wednesday afternoon and extradition proceedings are pending for those arrested out of state, prosecutors said.

Fourteen men face charges that include large narcotics trafficking and conspiring to sell heroin and cocaine, said prosecutors.
