First NYPD Member Dies From Coronavirus
Dennis Dickson once worked 17 days straight after Hurricane Sandy hit New York City and rampaged NYPD headquarters, police said.

NEW YORK CITY — An NYPD custodian at police headquarters was among the 365 city dwellers to lose his life to novel coronavirus, officials said.
NYPD worker Dennis Dickson died at Kings County Hospital in Brooklyn Thursday, police announced.
Dickson, 62, was a 14-year veteran with the NYPD who worked a marathon 17 days after Hurricane Sandy ravaged 1 Police Plaza in downtown Manhattan, said Police Commissioner Dermot Shea.

"Today we lost one of our own," said Shea. "He's been keeping the NYPD safe so our officers could keep you safe."
As of Thursday, 294 NYPD officers and 57 employees had tested positive for COVID-19 and 3,674, more than 10 percent, cops had called in sick, police said.

Dickson was not the only city worker to lose his life to COVID-19 Thursday.
Weiss, a 21-year veteran of the Department of Transportation, died at Jamaica Hospital the same day, officials said.
"Ms. Weiss was a treasured employee and beloved colleague, known for her warmth, kindness, and her true professionalism," the DOT said. "DOT joins all New Yorkers in wishing our sincerest condolences to the family of our colleague and friend, Irene Weiss, who served her City with such dedication."
